If you rent in the UK you are (hopefully!) aware the government sets minimum standards for energy-efficiency in all private rentals in the UK. Currently, the EPC for your home (Energy Efficiency Certification) should be at least an E. If it is an E, you’ll probably know that’s not great.
The previous government had plans to increase this to a min C rating, which is a huge, very noticeable improvement to people’s comfort and back pocket. These plans were scrapped though, even though approx 80% of landlords were (according to a survey done at the time) ready to make the changes, or already had.
As predicted by everyone in the industry, the new government is expected to reinstated the requirement, with a new deadline of 2030.
Not happy to wait? We can’t blame you!
There are several schemes in place to let your landlord get free energy-efficiency upgrades to your home, just because you live there.
What landlord doesn’t want free stuff that improves the value of their house, offers future legal protections, and leaves their tenants in a better position?
