Internal wall insulation – what can I expect?

A fabulously warm home and lower energy bills sounds great, but what does internal wall insulation (IWI) actually entail?

Most retrofit installers these days use what’s called the SWIP IWI system. It’s highly effective, and relatively straightforward to install. It adds 65-100mm to the internal face of your external walls. Part of the installation requirement is to make sure you have enough ventilation, so the house can still breathe, so if you don’t already have trickle vents, your ECO4  or GBIS team will install those for you as well.

Because you are extending the wall into the room, it’s likely your window sills won’t fit anymore. Not to worry though, your installer will replace those for you, as well as things like cable covers, and anything else functional.

Areas like recessed windows might have a thinner layer of insulation though. We want to make sure your home is still functional and looks good.

The decorating though is down to you; what a great excuse to freshen up your living & bedrooms!
