Heat pumps in Edwardian Social Housing

Groun-source heat pumps may not be offered under the Eco4 scheme, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t allowed to share exciting news on these near-cousins of our air source heat pumps!

In west London, an Edwardian block of flats, all social housing, is transitioning to renewable heating source via an underground network of pipes. Each flat has it’s own pump, to replace their boiler, and full control over their heating needs. This is a wonderful example of how the technology can be used where there is limited outdoor space, and in an older building.

Social housing is not known for providing a particularly high standard of construction, or insulation. We hope this example is passed on to other housing associations and Local Authorities, as a way of supporting resident’s health. their pockets, and the environment.
